Episode 02: Jenny Alien
By Anthony Baxter Puig
The best art often starts with not knowing.
That idea came up again and again in my conversation with Cam from Jenny Alien, and it stuck.
Cam’s journey as an artist doesn’t follow a straight line. She started in London’s hyperpop scene, playing with distortion and digital maximalism. But over time, something rougher and more instinctive emerged. Today, her sound lives in a space between punk, electroclash, and pop — no formulas, no easy labels.
"When I was transitioning from hyperpop to the current sound… I didn’t know where we were headed. But the shape that it’s formed now is really exciting." -Cam from Jenny Alien
We talked about what it means to make music that doesn’t ask for permission. About punk as a way of thinking. About being confused on purpose and letting that guide you. And about the awkward but crucial act of playing unfinished songs for people.
“Sometimes the work teaches you what it wants to be,” I said. Cam nodded. “Yeah, and sometimes it tells you you were wrong.”
That’s what I love about this episode. It’s not just about genre or style. It’s about process. About staying human. About trusting raw instinct over polish. And in a moment when AI is pushing everything toward uniformity, that mindset feels more necessary than ever.
Hope you enjoy this one as much as we did.
And as always—mind the music.
